About this course
This course offers an advanced study of Al-Hidayah, one of the most important classical works of the Hanafi school. Through selected passages, students will develop a deeper understanding of the text, its legal discussions, and the reasoning that underpins its rulings.
The course focuses not only on what rulings are stated, but also on how they are developed. Students will examine the Hanafi method of legal reasoning, the principles behind juristic preference and evidential analysis, and the way the text presents and evaluates differing positions within the Hanafi school and beyond it.
Particular attention will be given to close reading, translation, analysis of legal arguments, and understanding the relationship between individual rulings and the broader juristic methodology of the text.
